Call goes out to Local Conservation Projects
LOCAL conservationists are being encouraged to celebrate their work in this year’s Insurance Corporation Conservation Awards.
Now in their 24th year, the awards are open to Channel Island individuals, businesses, organisations and schools who have created, or who have plans to create, an environmental project for the benefit of the islands.
‘This year we will introducing a new award in honour of Insurance Corporation chairman and founder of the Conservation Awards, Peter Walpole. This award will be the opportunity for followers of the Insurance Corporation Community Facebook Page to vote for their favourite project,’ said Insurance Corporation managing director, Glyn Smith.
‘We have seen many fantastic projects that have helped shape the Channel Islands over the years and we are looking forward to seeing what schemes are put forward this year whether they are new ideas or developments on previous entries.’
The top prize is £2,000 for the best conservation project and is open to individuals, families, conservation and environmental groups or organisations, companies, landscaping firms, States departments and parishes.
The Best School Project winner will receive £1,000 and gives schools the opportunity to increase the public awareness of their conservation projects created by pupils.
Judging for the awards will be done by a team of expert judges representing local conservation bodies. The public will be able to have their say for the Peter Walpole Award shortly after at www.facebook.com/insurancecorporation, the winner will receive £250 to put towards their project.
