At Insurance Corporation we're very proud of our staff and island roots, here are a few of the activities we've been up to recently both professionally and in the community.

Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands achieves Community Champion accreditation

Insurance Corporation is the first general insurer in the Channel Islands to be awarded the Community Champion Accreditation by Guernsey’s Environmental & Social Impact Monitor.

ESI Monitor is a non-profit organisation, which carries out independent assessments of the environmental and social measures taken by companies. Its aim is to reward those businesses that contribute most to the community they operate in and encourage other businesses to attain higher standards. Before achieving accreditation, businesses must show a commitment to supporting local charities and community initiatives, something that has been key to Insurance Corporation’s ethos for nearly 40 years.

Health & Social Care Bursary 2021 Launch

Bailiwick Health and Social Care (HSC) workers are again being encouraged to bring forward their ideas to enhance local health and social care provision with the return of the Insurance Corporation Health & Social Care Bursary. With the annual event unable to go ahead last year due to COVID pressures, the Insurance Corporation is pleased to bring the bursary back in 2021, the 30thanniversary of its inception.

Staff behind the projects that are considered to have the most benefit to our island will win £2,500 as the top prize and £1,000 as the runner up prize to further their ideas.

From tackling alcohol abuse in 1991, to reminiscence therapy for patients with cognitive impairment in 2019, the Bursary has been awarded to a wide range of applicants with innovative ideas that all had local care at their core. These have also included diabetes awareness, eating disorder research, improving post-treatment care for cancer patients and educational initiatives for parents of children in the health and social care system.

Investing in our local Broker Partnerships

We are committed to investing in our local broker partnerships and developing future talent within the insurance industry. We were delighted that one of our local Brokers, Jasmine Mitchell, was selected to join this year’s cohort in the RSA Broker Leader Programme (BLP), hosted by our parent company RSA. Jasmine Mitchell is the Group Personal Lines Manager at Cherry Godfrey in Jersey, and one of our local brokers who our underwriting team work very closely with daily. RSA have been running this programme since 2015 and have welcomed over 50 brokers since its inception with past delegates going on to reach successful new heights in their careers.

“The RSA Broker Leader Programme has been fantastic and I have found the course useful. It has opened my eyes as to the different styles and approaches there are to management and how to adapt these in different situations and playing staff members to their strengths. I am looking forward to continuing with the course and developing my experience further.” Jasmine.

“The RSA BLP is over halfway through and it’s so great to see the benefit to the entire cohort. Jasmine is the first from the Channel Islands to be nominated and it’s wonderful to see her taking so much value from it.’ Mark Marshall.

Simplifying our business and products

Our aim is to make doing business with us as simple and straightforward as possible. One of the ways we are looking to achieve this is to review our existing product portfolio, assessing where we have unnecessary complexity and reducing the number of similar products we currently offer. We want to clearly set out our product offering and appetite as part of this.

Why are we doing this?
We have listened to your feedback to simplify the way we do business, to reduce complexity, focus attention on our core products and deliver a more efficient business model that makes us easier to do business with. We want our customers to have a clear choice and understanding of the products we offer and working through this simplification helps deliver this.

How are we doing this?
We have reviewed our range of products and identified where there is an opportunity to simplify our offering. We have looked at where we can align customers to more appropriate products and therefore have identified some products to close to both new business and renewals.

The products which will be impacted are as follows:
